Double Master’s Programme with the University of East Anglia (UEA) (UK)

Since 2010, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is offering a Double Masters in cooperation with the School of Economics of the University of East Anglia (UEA). The UEA is located in Norwich, East England (UK), which is a historic city well-known for the arts, culture, music, nightlife, and tourism. The UEA serves over 15,000 students and is ranked 3rd 2016 in the National Student Survey. The School of Economics is top ranked in the UK regarding research, student satisfaction and student experience and one of the leading Economics Departments in the UK. It has an international reputation for research into experimental and behavioural economics, industrial and competition economics, and applied and financial economics. Up to 10 students starting the MSc in Economics/MSc in Management and Economics in the summer semester are eligible to apply for the Double Master's Programme.


Programme Structure

The Double Degree Programme has a regular period of study of two years (four semesters). After completing the first semester at RUB, two subsequent semesters have to be spend at UEA. In their final semester Double Master’s students return to Bochum in order to finish their studies.

Courses offered

Students can choose between two specializations: MSc Behavioural and Experimental Economics or MSc Industrial Economics. Both study courses follow a strict structure so that all modules offered are compulsory.

Cost, Scholarships and Funding

The tuition fees for UK/EU students in the academic year of 2017/2018 amounts to £7,365. Two RUB students, e. g. one student studying the Master’s Programme Experimental Economics and one student participating in the Master’s Programme Industrial Economics, get a scholarship equal to 50% of the fees. For the other RUB students, the tuition fees are reduced by £1,500.
Living expenses (accommodation, food, transportation, books and social activities) are estimated to be approximately £9,135 for one academic year.
There are many opportunities to finance studies abroad. Information about funding opportunities is provided by the International Office.

Application Process

1) Students first have to apply at RUB where the following documents must be submitted:


  • Personal statement (in English),
  • Official academic transcript (in English),
  • Bachelor certificate,
  • High-school leaving certificate,
  • English Language certificate (IELTS: 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in all components); TOEFL IBT: (88)).

2) As soon as you have received your admission letter, you must then apply at the UEA for a place in the programmes MSc Behavioural and Experimental Economics or MSc Industrial Economics.
