Exchange with Tongji University (China)

Background

Up to ten RUB students enrolled in one of the three master’s studies programmes “Management”, “Economics” as well as “Management and Economics” are eligible to spend one semester at the Tongji University in Shanghai (China).
Tongji University Shanghai was initially established in 1907 by a German physician named Erich Paulin as a medical school and has had a close relationship with Germany ever since. Today Tongji University offers its 50,000 students a comprehensive range of subjects and is one of the most prestigious universities in China.
The Bochum Faculty of Management and Economics has been in cooperation with Tongji University since the early 80s and retains a particularly close tie with the Chinese-German College CDHK, a joint facility of the German Academic exchange Service and the Tongji University. The CDHK covers the academic disciplines of: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Management and Economics.
A special feature of CDHK are the 23 endowed chairs which are funded by renowned companies. Due to these donations the CDHK study conditions have been greatly increased. Furthermore, the donators provide students with extensive industry contacts.
In addition to the funding provided by the industry, the CDHK is also supported by funds from the Federal Foreign Office.
The lecturers at CDHK are Chinese scholars (the majority of which have studied or completed a doctorate in Germany) and German visiting professors. The lectures are being held in German and English. The lectures of the visiting professors usually come in the form of weekly block courses. In addition to courses offered at CDHK, RUB students also have the possibility to take part in lectures held by the School of Economics and Management (SEM) of the Tongji University. These courses will be held completely in English. Please note that the focus of the courses offered at the CDHK and the SEM will be regarding Management.
