WAZ Report on Completion of Projects in Science and Practice

Interdisciplinary teams work for the first time on the key topic „Industry and Trade 4.0“ to complete projects ranging from energy start-ups to digital FinTech

The students presented the results of their research on Wednesday, 18th July 2018 at 3pm on the premises of Innogy SE. Following a welcome speech held by Mr. Frank Bertenhoff (Head of Customer Solution Design, Innogy SE) and a few introductory words given by the project team Prof. Dr. Nicola Werbeck and Dr. Anna Talmann, the event was moderated by Mr. Christian Glock (Innovations Manager/Business Developer, Innogy SE).

For the first time ever, interdisciplinary teams made up of students from the Faculties of Economics and Engineering were able to implement their excellent new ideas and innovative solutions. They spent eight weeks working on specific projects assigned to them by top-class regional companies and partner institutions and developed concepts for:

  • Future energy distribution – in co-operation with Innogy SE;
  • Learning 4.0 und digital learning strategies for Sparkasse Bochum;
  • Evaluation of mobile phone based digital microfinance institutions in Sub-Sahara Africa – in collaboration with the KfW Entwicklungsbank and DEG - Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH
  • Smart Homes, thermal energy transformation and the construction boom – Digitization of craft businesses - with the support of EnergieAgentur.NRW
  • Evaluation of the Mercur Science Policy Network in co-operation with the Mercator Research Center Ruhr GmbH.

The interdisciplinary teamwork lead to

  • the development of a semi-automatic (e.g. human-robot-collaboration) and fully automatic production line – in co-operation with the Chair of Production Systems as well as
  • a recommendation for incoming goods scanner systems for the Bochum company „Gebr. Eickhoff Maschinenfabrik u. Eisengießerei GmbH“.
