Password change required

Due to the recent cyber-attack, each account, i.e. each RUB LoginID and each combined service must be given a new password as soon as possible for security reasons. Further information on this can be found on the pages of IT.SERVICES.

Please note that after changing your password, you should not log in for at least 30 minutes to ensure that the change has reached all systems.
Furthermore, after changing the password, your devices (mobile phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) will not be able to access Eduroam, RUB-Mail, VPN, Moodle, ZOOM, etc. without re-entering the password. You will be asked to re-enter your password in order to login. Please notice that you should never use the same password for different services or systems. However, if you use your RUB LoginID password for different services outside the RUB (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Gmail etc.), you should change this password as well. Moreover, you should choose a password that does not match the password for your RUB LoginID.
You will have to log in with your old password at your work place (including home office) until further notice, as this will only be synchronized after the central IT infrastructure has been rebuild.

Recent information on hacker attacks for students

Dear students,
please note the following information on the current status of the attack on the central infrastructure of the RUB:
The services RUB-Mail, RUBcast, RUB-App, moodle, zoom, Matrix (Riot), sciebo, Microsoft Office are still available. The vpn-tunnel can be used for research.
However, some facilities of the Faculty of Management and Economics are still limited in their functionality:
The Dean's Office, the Internship Office and some chairs cannot be reached via e-mail. Please contact the respective staff members by telephone, if necessary.
Digital course offerings can be maintained just as before. However, please refer to information given in the specific moodle courses, if individual restrictions occur (the visibility in moodle about how many people are currently online, is independent of the attack).
E-Campus are offline and currently not available; the NRW travel ticket and the certificate of study are also affected. It is not yet clear when these platforms will be available again.

The web interface of FlexNow can be used. In particular, this means that students can register and deregister for exams and generate data sheets on their own, as long as they have a RUB-Card (this may not be the case for first-year students). The Examination Office is not able to access FlexNow as the Citrix-surface cannot be used. Therefore, student data cannot be accessed.
The processing time of commenced and registered papers (Bachelor's, Master's, seminar papers, etc.) is extended by 7 days. Affected students who are currently writing bachelor or master theses will be informed via e-mail, as soon as the Examination Office can access FlexNow again

Study offer summer semester 2020

We already published timetables and module manuals for the summer semester 2020. However, classroom sessions cannot take place as scheduled, for the safety of all of us. Therefore, we are pleased to inform you, that we can still offer a very extensive range of courses for the upcoming summer semester. You will notice that only very few modules cannot be offered due to the current situation. In return, modules regularly taking place in the winter semester are supplementary offered this summer semester. Additionally, attendance figures have been increased, whenever possible.
You can find an Excel file providing an overview of all modules for the summer semester 2020 and giving a brief description of the form in which the respective course takes place under The intended form of examination will be added soon.
In order to keep important information concisely, we present further information on the websites of the respective chairs. Please inform yourself as soon as possible about the registration modalities.

Assignment of Bachelor theses via WiWi-BOS

Bachelor theses will be assigned via WiWi-BOS in the summer semester 2020 as scheduled. The processing of Bachelor theses outside WiWi-BOS as well as the processing of Master theses can be executed as usual, too. However, when registering for bachelor and master theses, please take into account that access to the libraries of the university may not be possible or may be restricted for the entire processing period.

Oral examinations via electronic media

The dean and the head of the examination board of the Faculty of Management and Economics hereby determine that due to current developments regarding the corona virus the case of hardship for electronic examinations can be assumed. Matriculation: On-site matriculation will be discontinued as of Monday, March 16. The matriculation deadlines for degree programmes / subjects with restricted admission are extended accordingly.
As of today, please send your enrolment documents (and a scan of any required documents) via e-mail to or by post to: Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Immatrikulation, Universitätsstraße 150, 44801 Bochum.
The mandatory counselling will not take place until further notice in order to maintain the counselling services of the faculty. It is not necessary to provide a certificate of the mandatory counselling in order to enrol in a Master's program at our faculty for the summer semester 2020.

Omission of all exams until further notice

Due to the current situation regarding the spread of the corona virus we point out that all examinations of the Faculty of Management and Economics are cancelled, as of today. This includes the exam "Mathematik für Ökonomen" on April 02, 2020.

Due to current developments, all students are advised to not come to the university for an indefinite period from Monday, March 16. Regardless of the expected number of people, the city of Bochum has banned all events. Since the libraries and other facilities are also closed, there is no reason to come to the university. Please stay at home and avoid unnecessary social contacts.

Closure of the faculty library

As agreed upon with the university management, the faculty library in GD will be closed from Saturday, March 14 until further notice. According to an order of the city of Bochum, the municipal authority must approve meetings with more than 100 people. This is not feasible for the library in each individual case. Therefore, this measure is necessary. The library is working on a lending service. Information will be published on March 16.
