In the winter term 2025/26, the chair for Economic Policy and Applied Econometrics offers the master-module "Applied Economic Policy". The Seminar will be held in English.

Topic: The Economics of Militarization

• Topic 1: Military Spending as a Fiscal Multiplier
• Topic 2: Mandatory Military Service Effects on Labor Market Outcomes
• Topic 3: Military Spending in Developing Countries
• Topic 4: Military Conscription, Personality and Behavior

Interested students are invited to attend the kick-off meeting on October 14th, 2025, 10:15-11:45 in GD 03/512.

The block seminar will take place at the RWI in Essen on January 15th & 16th, 2026.

In the seminar each student develops an individual research question, writes a seminar paper and presents it during the block seminar. After the presentation we have some time for discussion and students should be prepared to answer questions regarding their paper and presentation.

Deadline for seminar paper submission is January 8th, 2026.

Please note that there is a limit of 12 students who may participate in the Seminar. If this limit is reached, participants will be selected at random on October 10th, among the students who are enrolled in the Moodle course.
