Application and admission - Master

The admission to all Master degree programs at the faculty of Management and Economics is restricted according to grade, based on the average grade at a Bachelors level (so-called “Numerus Clausus”). Only the best applicants will be selected for participation in the program. The Master Management, the Master Management and Economics and the Master Sales Management are almost completely taught in German. In order to be able to study successfully, a high level of German language skills is required. That is the reason why a certificate from one of the following examinations boards is needed:
• TestDaF with the grades 4 x 4 or 16 points
• DSH examination (level 2 or 3)
• ZOP examination, KDS, GDS or Certificate C2: GDS of the Goethe-Institute
• German language diploma - DSD - II
• ÖSD language diploma - C1
• A completed degree program in German Studies or Philology

Admission requirements for the Master Management and Economics:

Bachelor degree in Management, Economics or a related subject covering at least 180 ECTS-Points. As part of your Bachelor degree you must have obtained at least:
• 40 ECTS-Points in Management
• 30 ECTS-Points in Economics and
• 15 ECTS-Points in Mathematics and/or Statistics

Admission requirements for the Master Management:

Bachelor degree in Management, Economics or a related subject covering at least 180 ECTS-Points.
As part of your Bachelor degree you must have obtained at least:
• 60 ECTS-Points in Management
• 30 ECTS-Points in Economics and
• 15 ECTS-Points in Mathematics and/or Statistics

Please make sure that your application contains the information needed to check whether those requirements are met. Specifically, your university certificates should not only provide your grades but also clearly state the number of ECTS-Points you received for each of your courses. Applications without this information cannot be processed.

Admission requirements for the Master Sales Management:

Bachelor degree in Management, Economics or a related subject covering at least 180 ECTS-Points. As part of your Bachelor degree you must have obtained at least:
• 30 ECTS-Points in Management and
• 15 ECTS-Points in Mathematics and/or Statistics

Admission requirements for the Master in Economics:

Bachelor degree in Management, Economics or a related subject covering at least 180 ECTS-Points. As part of your Bachelor degree you must have obtained at least:
• 40 ECTS-Points in Economics and
• 15 ECTS-Points in Mathematics and/or Statistics
• Good English language skills are important because the program is taught entirely in English. Applicants need to have English language skills according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages Level B2. The following proof of English proficiency will be accepted:
- TOEFL* (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Minimum total score of 87 points (internet-based)
- IELTS** (International English Language Testing System): Minimum Overall band score 6.5
- Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE) and Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE.)***
- Proof of a bachelor's degree with English being the medium of instruction (Evidence of this will either need to be included on a transcript or letter from your university, both need to be officially signed and sealed)
- Certified copy of the German “Abitur”-certificate
- Native speakers from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, New Zealand and the United States are exempt

Other English proficiency tests which are not listed above and test scores older than two years from the application date will not be accepted.

Admission requirements for the Master Economic Policy Consulting

Bachelor degree in Management, Economics or a related subject covering at least 180 ECTS-Points. As part of your Bachelor degree you must have obtained at least:
• 40 ECTS-Points in Economics or
• 20 ECTS-Points in Economics and 20 ECTS-Points in an economic related subject such as Economics and Politics of East Asia, Geography, Social Science, Political Science or others
• 15 ECTS-Points in Mathematics and/or Statistics
• proof of English language skills (see under “Economics”)
• proof of German language skills (see above)


Application

For all Master degree programs you have to apply online only. Fill in the required information at the online application and choose the field of studies. You can check your application status in the information portal. At the end of the admission process the admission notifications will be available here for download.
The application deadline for all degree programs is 15th July for courses of study commencing in the winter semester and 15th January for courses of study commencing in the summer semester. The application DEADLINE for admission to higher semesters is 15th Sept for the winter semester and 15th March for the summer semester. It is possible to apply with a Transcript of Records if you have earned at least 150 ECTS credits at your previous university.


Admission


Approximately 2 to 3 weeks after the application deadline, you get the information if you got an admission or not. In case you have been accepted to study at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, you have to carry out the following steps:
• please confirm that you accept the admission offer at Info Portal Zulassung
• open the letter of admission (PDF file) and read it carefully! (For legal reasons, the letter of admission is issued in German. The English translation can be found by scrolling down the document)
• go to the link stated in the admission letter and carry out the “Online Immatrikulation”. Usually, this tool will be activated in Mid-February (for SuSe) or Mid-August (for WiSe). The website that will open is available in German only. Therefore, we have prepared some instructions that will help you through it.


Mandatory Counselling

If you received an admission for studying for one of our Master programs, you are obligated to participate in a counselling. A registration is not required, you can just appear at one of the given dates. The dates and venue for the mandatory counselling for the upcoming semester can be found at our faculty website .
